I love technology and education. Maybe you like knitting. Cool. My thing is educational technology.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with a colleague and friend about standardizing bookmarks over a group of networked accounts. As I was answering I was thinking of Occam and wondering, “is there an easier way to do this?”.
There is. It’s called delicious, and here’s my case for using it.
1) You can put a link to your delicious feed on the home page of the school site
2) All your links are available, for kids and parents, at home or at school - categorized and organized
3) You can add to del.icio.us whenever (and wherever) you want
4) It’s free
5) If you are at home and working, you can simply add a link to your list. No more juggling different lists of bookmarks on different computers…
6) You can protect your links if you have some private links you don’t people seeing (like to a banking site or something)
7) You can backup your delicious bookmarks, and export them if you want 😊
8) More astute users can subscribe to your del.icio.us feed, seeing your changes to your links automatically
Another issues with local bookmarks is changing and deleting bookmarks - students can change and remove bookmarks on a local workstation, creating a pain in the neck situation 😉
There is a HOWTO (a step-by-step guide) here.
