Arne Duncan advocates open source

This report from T.H.E. Journal says The US Secretary of Education has said

“This new report reinforces that effective teachers need to incorporate digital content into everyday classes and consider open-source learning management systems, which have proven cost effective in school districts and colleges nationwide…” (emphasis mine). 

To which I say…

HELL YEA!!!!

I’m sure other people in prominent governmental agencies have encouraged the use of open source technologies in education, but this is the first I’ve heard. I see this as wonderful news. As an advocate for open source technologies, I am delighted to point to this comment. Of course open source makes sense in schools!
